A sample prayer following the pattern suggested. (We do encourage you to use your own words and to expand on the ideas suggested here…)
Lord, I come before you in worship acknowledging that You alone are God. You are worthy to receive all glory, honor and praise. You always do all things well. You are over all and know all and can do anything, so I humbly bow in worship before You, surrendering myself completely to You.
I am grateful for life…both physical and eternal. You have promised to meet all my needs and You do. I am grateful for the privilege of coming right in to Your presence at any time about anything. I thank You for loving me unconditionally, for caring about me, for guiding me and teaching me. I thank you for my physical family and for my faith family and for what each contribute to my life.
I confess to You that my heart is often not right, my motives less than pure or honest, that my thoughts don’t please you, that my words don’t please or honor you, that my behavior does not represent you well. Forgive me for my sins, for each time that in my own effort I fall short of bringing You glory with my life. And thank You for Your promise of forgiveness when we confess our sin, for the clean slate and fresh start.
In Jesus’ name, I seek Your direction for my life. Whether you desire me to stay the course or make corrections, I commit to keeping in step with Your Holy Spirit. I am willing to obey you at any point. Please reveal to me your desire regarding… (personalize your requests).
I do know that you desire me to grow and mature in my walk with You. Give me a hunger and thirst for righteousness, that you make me holy like You are holy, that You live through me by Your Holy Spirit, that people would see more of You and less of me in my life every day. I ask that Your compassion for the lost would motivate the way I live so that I am an active ambassador for You.
It is in Jesus’ name that I pray, amen.
